"Those who are well have no need for a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." Dear friend, "The fool has said in his heart, 'There is no God' " , so begins the 53rd Psalm in God's Word the Bible. Such a thought stems from our fallen nature and permeates our being. It begins from conception and is the death wish song of our hearts from birth till death unless God has mercy on us. It is a state of continuous enmity and war against the one, true and living God who created the heavens and the earth and all there in. It is a cry of rebellion and is acted out in all our thoughts, words and deeds. If it were not for God's restraint upon us we would literally destroy ourselves. Though He gives us life, breath and being, food, clothing and shelter, law and order, knowledge and vocation we deny Him in all our ways. One declares this openly, adamantly as an "atheist" or in other various ways denying Him by being agnostic or even religious but still denying His true name. This was not so in the beginning for when mankind was first created it was in the image of God (good, righteous and true). Mankind was in perfect standing before Him. God warned Adam the first man that by disobedience he would "surely die" that the "wages of sin is death" but when he was tempted he fell and became thoroughly corrupt and his image became that of Satan the tempter (evil, murderous and a liar). When he fell we all fell for he was the head of mankind and when he was sentenced to death we all became damned, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." We are now men of sin (rebellious, violently disobedient towards God). All our acts are continuously evil before Him. Daily we labor to greater condemnation and become more heavy laden with guilt. None can say before Him, "I am good and therefore God shall receive me as I am" for He has declared, "There is none righteous, no not even one" and "There is none who does good, no, not one". None can say "I'm not that bad I do such and such..." for He has declared of us, "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away ". In itself it is a dismal reality. It is one of no hope being unable to justify ourselves before God but it is even worse for we don't even care to be reconciled. We hate God and do not seek Him. We are full of cursing and bitterness towards God. We flee from His light and turn into the darkness of our own deceit in anger without a cause. "And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light lest his deeds should be exposed. { John 3:19-20} Death by God's just hand is not simply going to the grave and returning to dust it is what we suffer while we live on this earth. Death is standing estranged from Him and apart from His favor and being under His wrath. It shall be more so to the full extent when God shall resurrect all mankind to face judgement for all their rebellious acts against Him. Death is not an escape for the wicked but the end of their lustful dreams unto a rude awakening of reality of a debt owed you. A debt that must be justly paid and finding yourself without strength to deliver from receiving it, eternal death. Then shall be the full just recompense for our sins for He declares, "But You have seen, for You observe trouble and grief, to repay it by Your hand", and again "Vengeance is mine, I will repay" and once more, "Upon the wicked He will rain coals; fire and brimstone an a burning wind shall be the portion of their cup." Truly we are sinners in the hands of an angry, righteous and holy God and it is a fearful thing to fall into His hands found as a fool and an enemy. God's perfect justice will be met and none shall escape and no deed shall be unaccounted for. Now we stand under His wrath estranged from His fellowship and favor and then it will be eternally in torment "where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.". The Word of God declares, " If You, LORD, should mark iniquities, O LORD who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You, That you may be feared." and again, "For the wages of sin is death but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" "For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive And abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You.'' But who is this Jesus and what do we have to do with Him? Continue |
